Shutterbugs Member to Lead Workshop at Massee Lane Gardens

A presentation on flower photography will be given by Shutterbugs member King Davis on Saturday, February 15th, at Massee Lane Gardens as part of the 2014 Festival of Camellias.  The program is scheduled for 1pm in the auditorium, with ample time following for attendees to photograph throughout the gardens and greenhouses. Though primarily for beginning and intermediate photographers, the presentation will be applicable to many types of photography, and a wide range of experience levels. There is no charge for attending the presentation, but admission to Massee Lane is five dollars for adults, four dollars for seniors over 54; children under 12 are admitted free. Massee Lane Gardens is the home of The American Camellia Society, and is located about five miles south of Fort Valley, GA on Georgia Highway 49.  Registration by calling 877 422 6355 is encouraged, but is not required for attendance. For more info on the gardens, visit http://www.camellias-acs.org and then click on the words Massee Lane Gardens in the left panel. Change of Meeting Place

We received word from TUAC this past Thursday that TUAC will be using  the gallery on Tuesday night, Feb.11.  Fortunately for us, the Hightower Memorial Library in Thomaston has a multi-purpose room that we can use.

Below is a photo, along with directions. Hope those of you who are unfamiliar with the area will be able to find it easily. Just follow the signs to Hwy 74 and/or to the hospital and you'll be OK.

Directions:

Hightower Memorial Library, 800 West Gordon Street (Hwy 74), Thomaston, GA. Located directly across the street from Upson Regional Medical Center. There is ample parking on both sides and in the back of the building, as well as limited parking beside the front sidewalk. Since the library will be closed to the public, please enter and exit through the door in the BACK of the building.

If the meeting has to be cancelled due to inclement weather, we will post that info here on the blog as soon as we know for sure that weather will be a problem.

(Note: If you'd like to be notified anytime something new is posted, please look at the top of the left panel. Click on the "FOLLOW BY E-MAIL" button, enter your e-mail address, and then click SUBMIT.)

Hope to see you Tuesday, the 11th. Remember to come a little early and enjoy some Valentine treats before the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

February 2014 Meeting

The West Central Georgia Shutterbugs will meet on Tuesday, February 11th at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomaston-Upson Arts Council (TUAC) Gallery located at 201 South Center Street on the courthouse square in Thomaston.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, our upcoming meeting will celebrate our love for photography with “Speed Dating Photographs.” Based on the concept of speed dating, we will spend three minutes with each photograph displayed in the room and write down what we love about the photograph and what could improve. Each member will take away a heart filled with compliments about the photograph that they brought. (We can all benefit from being “loved on” by fellow members!)

All you have to do in order to participate is bring a 5x7 or 8x10 photograph that you took of something that you love! Come early (6:15-6:30) and enjoy some delicious “Valentine treats” before the meeting begins. (Please bring your own bottled water, soda, coffee, etc.) Photographers of all skill levels are always welcome.

February 2014

My name is Jim Davidson. I am an avid outdoors-man, and I love to camp and hike. To be able to capture an image that is frozen in time makes photography a hobby that is very rewarding.

I consider myself a photographer enthusiast.  I shoot mostly nature - all types of wildlife and landscapes - and enjoy Macro ( which  can bevery challenging).

Note: We can not post original full-size, high-quality photographs on this blog.  These photographs  are small, blog-quality reproductions to highlight the talented eye of our Photographer of the Month.
